GrandPerspective is free software for Mac OS X primarily used for disk space inspection. After fifteen years, an entirely new application icon was added to represent newer macOS application icon standards. This upgrade was initially suggested by Adobe for the compatibility of some older programs on the Mac platform, specifically Photoshop and Illustrator. At first, this upgrade seemed illogical given that many designers already had software designed to work seamlessly with the new icon, and that most people were not even aware it was coming. However, many users reported problems with the old icon being difficult to use and having limited options with the new icons; specifically, they complained about the lack of options for customizing the appearance of their workspaces.
One way to get around the difficulty of navigating through the old menus with GrandPerspective is to download and install the free "My Account" application from Adobe's website. This new feature allows you to log in to your Adobe profile, and automatically download and install all updates, such as those included with GrandPerspective. Logging in with the proper user ID and password should be enough to get the software up and running. In addition to the free software download, many users find that the free "Thank You" file offered by Adobe will greatly speed up the process of getting the software installed. The free version lacks a number of useful features available only with the full version, such as tools for inspecting hard disk and network drive data, disk cloning of entire disks, and ability to perform automated system maintenance.
If you are familiar with the way GrandPerspective works, then you can likely navigate its interface without any problems. The only different aspect to this intuitive application is its file system, which allows multiple simultaneous operations in an orderly fashion, making it ideal for system administration or repair. Disk cloning is achieved using the "Clone File" function, which lets you copy a selected file or folder onto another disk. An unchecked "nester" checkbox lets you remove a file that is no longer required by the operating system. The program can be set to perform automatic disk backup after operation, and can be configured to save data for online storage or emailing.
